Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)
Your BAH will be used in one of two ways. You can either rent on base or you can live off base. If you live off base, you can either rent or buy. Click Here for current BAH rates.
On Base Housing ( Rent On-Base )

McChord Air Force Base was combined with Fort Lewis in 2010 to make Joint Base Lewis McChord. The Joint Base is located between Tacoma and Olympia, Washington and is home to the 62nd Airlift Wing which provides strategic airlift worldwide. The wing was especially instrumental after the explosion of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Pinatubo and has offered relief in almost every major natural disaster since then. McChord is also home to the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. The McChord housing office is located next to the Family Support Center in Building 522. The wait for on-post housing can be 30-60 days depending on availability. Off-post housing may be assigned while waiting. McChord has over 900 military family housing units on post. Single-family homes as well as duplexes are offered within vicinity of a youth center and a sports center. Applying for housing can be done through the family housing office by filling out DD Form 1746. For more information, call #253-982-5516.

For children of on-post military residents, families may have a choice of on or off-post schools. Elementary school for children in grades K-6 is available on base. The Clover Park School District operates all on-base schools. If students who live on base are in middle school, they will attend Woodbrook Middle School, and if they are in high school, they will attend Clover Park High School. Off-post housing schools are assigned by neighborhoods where military personnel reside. The base has one of the most comprehensive adult educational offerings of any base. Over 400 college courses are offered on base by such local colleges as Pierce College, Saint Martin�s College, and Southern Illinois University. There are numerous community colleges and universities within driving distance of the base. The Education Center at McChord is located at 851 Lincoln Boulevard, Building 851 McChord Field, WA 98438.
